Picture Yourself

A sense of place

As a new gateway sign welcoming visitors and residents to downtown Las Vegas is dedicated Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018 at Main Street and Las Vegas Boulevard, visitors pose for photos commemorating the event. Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, Councilman Bob Coffin and former Mayor Oscar B. Goodman were joined by showgirls for the official dedication of the sign, which replaces the sign destroyed in a truck crash in July 2016. The new city gateway sign, at 1810 Las Vegas Blvd. South, features twin showgirls that rise 26 feet into the air and flank a 12-foot-tall script Las Vegas color-changing LED sign. YESCO fabricated the signs and Las Vegas Paving did all the site furnishings and other flatwork, including the dice, poker chips, roulette wheel and all associated concrete work. – Photo by Sam Morris/Las Vegas News Bureau
