GUNS ‘N’ HOSES: Police and firefighters produce hits and runs for multiple charities at Las Vegas Ballpark

Representatives of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue took the field Aug. 25 in the annual “Guns ’n’ Hoses” charity game. It was the first time Las Vegas Ballpark, new home of the Las Vegas Aviators, has hosted the game, which had been played at Cashman Field since the early 1990s. The greatest pregame ovation was for the Fire team’s honorary manager, Vegas Golden Knight Deryk Engelland, who threw one of the ceremonial first pitches.

New eco-friendly, ‘zero-waste’ carpet recycling used at Las Vegas conventions

Alma USA is introducing Eco-Concept to Las Vegas this year, in which 100 percent recyclable polypropylene carpet is put down for a trade show. After the show, the carpet is lifted and fed into Eco-Concept’s mobile trailer-housed machine onsite, which shreds and compacts it.What you may have walked on may become something you sit on, thanks to a carpet-recycling innovation used at the recently concluded MAGIC trade show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, as well as other industry shows in town.


TRAVEL TITANS: Airport, traffic and Las Vegas as an emerging sports hub top ‘Travel Talks’ confab

Airport security, motor-vehicle traffic and the oncoming wave of more major-league sports and other live entertainment events in Las Vegas dominated a conversation of more than two dozen travel and tourism leaders Aug. 14 at the Delano Las Vegas. Rep. Susie Lee, D-Nev., the LVCVA and the U.S. Travel Association hosted the “Travel Talks” roundtable.
