You Say It's Your Birthday!

August celebrity celebrations

This month’s celebrity birthdays:

Aug. 3: At 93 years young, Tony Bennett leaves his heart in ol’ Las Vegas. And he’ll do it again when he takes the stage at the Venetian Sept. 25, 27 and 28.

Aug. 4: Vroom-vroom-VROOM! Speed racer and Vegas native Kurt Busch hits the gas toward his 41st birthday.

Aug. 5: Show the Ex-Guv some luv – our former chief exec Brian Sandoval turns 56.

Aug. 8: Connie Stevens, aka Cricket Blake in Hawaiian Eye, says aloha to birthday No. 81.

Aug. 14: Tut-tut, now. King of comedy Steve Martin welcomes a wild and crazy 74th birthday. Serenade him in person when he teams with Martin Short at Caesars Palace on Oct. 6.

Aug. 15: Grab your knife and fork and cut up a nice juicy cut of what they serve at celebrity chef Tom Colicchio’s Vegas steak eateries to honor him on his 57th birthday.

Aug. 16: Take a “Holiday” to ring in Madonna’s 61st birthday. Then vogue on down to Caesars Palace to catch her in town on Nov. 7, 9 and 10.

Aug. 16: Just imagine her singing a few notes — “blame it on the bossa nova, the dance of love!” — and your toes start tappin’. That’s the legacy of Eydie Gorme, who along with her husband/stage partner Steve Lawrence were Vegas royalty as Steve & Eydie. She left us in 2013, but her memory lingers on the Strip she always electrified.

Aug. 20:  We’re hoping Robert Plant is “In the Mood” to mark his 71st birthday.

Aug. 20:  Pulling no punches about his age, boxing promoter/Vegas perennial Don King (and his hair) comes out swinging for birthday No. 88.

Aug. 21: Remember to “Put a Little Love in Your Heart” for Jackie DeShannon, who moves on to age 78.

Aug. 21: If you give Kenny Rogers any money for his 81st birthday, he promises not to count it while he’s sitting at the table. (They’ll be time enough for counting when the birthday’s done.)

Aug. 22: As she hits birthday No. 49, Las Vegas chef/restaurateur Giada De Laurentiis remains a gastronomic dynamo — and a vital community presence. See what we mean by clicking here:

Aug. 22: Schlemiel, Schlimazel: Laverne and Shirley pixie and drop-in Menopause the Musical star Cindy Williams keeps skipping along at age 72.

Aug. 23: Let’s hope he’s still not pining away for “Jessie’s Girl” when former EFX headliner Rick Springfield reaches age 70.

Aug. 23: We hope we don’t insult him by revealing that insult comic supreme/Vegas fave Vinnie Favorito turns 59.

Aug. 25: C’mon, for No. 70, why don’t you give a little smooch — you know, a KISS – to Gene Simmons?

Aug. 28: Celebrating No. 54Shania Twain is revving up her pipes and her dance moves for her new residency, Let’s Go! starting in December at Planet Hollywood. Oh, and by the way: “Whose bed have YOUR boots been under?”

Aug. 29: Curtain up – it’s showtime for the 50th birthday of Vegas theater impresario/producer David Saxe.

Aug. 29: For decades on television, he made our vicarious “champagne wishes and caviar dreams” come true, then he brought his bon vivant style to our local media. We lost Robin Leach a year ago, but not before he left an indelible mark on the entertainment scene in the world’s entertainment capital.

Aug. 31: He was hilarious for decades – and a lot of that hilarity was generated right here in Las Vegas. Nostalgically, we also remember Buddy Hackett, who left us in 2003, as an often “blue” comedian for his era. In this era, though, would we even break a blush? … Yes, we likely would! Either way, we miss ya, Buddy.

Aug. 31: Do a little Moondance for the 74th birthday of Van Morrison, who will be doing his little lunar jig when he returns to Caesars Palace in February.
