Celebrity Chef Giada De Laurentiis drops in on local students

Stepping out of the kitchen and into the lives of local students, celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis, who operates restaurants at Caesars Palace and The Cromwell, paid a visit to the Jan Jones Blackhurst Elementary School in Las Vegas on May 10, 2019.

In an event titled “Snack in the Garden with Giada,” and in conjunction with Green Our Planet, America’s largest school garden program, Giada took questions from dozens of fourth- and fifth-graders, toured the school’s garden and discussed the importance of fresh produce and eating a well-balanced diet.

The nationwide Green Our Planet initiative operates in 165 schools throughout the Clark County School District. The gardens are designed to reconnect students to the wonders of nature and encourage them to learn how to care for gardens, and the planet at large. Its STEAM program helps public and private schools raise funding for outdoor school gardens and creates programming to instruct students on topics including health and nutrition.
