GIVIN’ LARGE:  Wynn Resorts’ new ‘Giving Week’ program to raise money for charities

Wynn Resorts Ltd. will splash into the holiday season with a show of companywide altruism and a special fundraiser for the city police force’s philanthropic arm.

During Giving Week, a new initiative running Dec. 1-7, Wynn Resorts, which operates Wynn Las Vegas and Encore on the Strip, Wynn Boston Harbor in Everett, Mass., and a pair of properties in Macau, will have more than 12,000 employees aiding charities. Giving Week was inspired by Giving Tuesday, the international philanthropy day on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

“Wynn employees are deeply committed to community service in Las Vegas, a city that we are all so proud to call home,” Wynn Las Vegas President Marilyn Spiegel said in a statement. “Giving Week is a new and impactful way for Wynn to provide food, supplies and funds to vital charities in need during the holidays.”

Giving Week continues a philanthropic tradition for Wynn Resorts. In 2018, the casino company’s employees donated more than 46,000 hours to the cause, and more than $600,000, including a corporate match, to charitable causes.

Here’s a day-by-day look at Giving Week activities at which workers can raise money or perform activities to support charities:

Sunday, Dec. 1: Wynn Golf Club fundraiser at the newly opened Wynn Golf Club. Employees can experience the course for $150 per employee and $250 per twosome. All money raised by the Golf Club experience — as well as the Dec. 4 cookie-decorating class and the Dec. 6 bake sale — will benefit the Wynn Employee Foundation Community Grant Fund, which supports nonprofit agencies working to improve the community.

Monday, Dec. 2: Le Rêve — The Dream performance benefiting the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation. The nonprofit, established in 1999, supports advanced officer training; aids fallen officers’ families; provides higher education scholarships for officers’ children; and directs community safety and engagement programs.

Tuesday, Dec. 3: Feed the Funnel. At this party, in its second annual iteration at Wynn Las Vegas, employees, friends and family will assemble 300,000 meals to benefit The Pack Shack, a national nonprofit that distributes food and necessities to the needy through local community partners. This will also occur at Encore Boston Harbor. Meals will be distributed to families in both the Las Vegas Valley and the greater Boston region.

Wednesday, Dec. 4: Cookie-decorating master class. Award-winning Executive Pastry Chef Patrice Caillot will lead employees in a hands-on tutorial to decorate cookies that taste as good as they look.

Thursday, Dec. 5: Pizza-making master class. Chef Enzo Febbraro will invite employees into his Allegro kitchen for a lively pizza-making class.

Friday, Dec. 6: Pastry chef bake sale. Charity event open to Wynn employees only.

Saturday, Dec. 7: Las Vegas Great Santa Run. Each year, the Las Vegas Great Santa Run attracts thousands of runners and walkers, including families, businesses, individuals and global tourists, to Downtown Las Vegas. The fundraiser benefits Opportunity Village, a charitable organization supporting people with intellectual disabilities.
