Raiders players bowl Strikes for Kids at Red Rock fund-raiser
There was fun to spare — and pins crashing down — when Raiders players took to the lanes for the fourth annual Las Vegas All-Star Bowling Classic to benefit the nonprofit Strikes for Kids at the Red Rock Lanes.
Hosted by Kolton Miller — the 2018 first-round draft pick for the NFL team that will play in Las Vegas starting in 2020 — and featuring several of his future Las Vegas Raiders teammates, the event aimed to raise money to provide 350 backpacks filled with school supplies to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada.
Since its inception in 2012, the national Strikes for Kids program has partnered with more than 125 NFL, NBA, MLB and MMA athletes to organize bowling, softball and golf events to help alleviate the financial burden of school supplies on needy families.
The giveaway program provided 2,000 backpacks filled with supplies in 2017, increasing to 3,500 in 2018. The goal for 2019 is to exceed 4,000 backpack giveaways to students nationwide. Included in that total are 300 backpacks that were filled thanks to the organization’s “Las Vegas Golf Partee” at Top Golf in January.
