Santana gives the gift of reading to local students

Partnering with Spread the Word Nevada, a nonprofit children’s literacy organization, House of Blues headliner Carlos Santana’s Milagro Foundation has provided more than 15,000 books to 57 schools across Southern Nevada. And that generosity was celebrated at a recent event featuring the legendary guitarist.

Representatives and students from one of the schools receiving the books — CC Ronnow Elementary School — were on hand at the Spread the Word Nevada offices and warehouse to tour the facility. During the event, Santana, accompanied by House of Blues volunteers, stopped in and addressed students on the importance of literacy.

Spread the Word Nevada is dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by providing books to at-risk children in low-income Southern Nevada communities. Since 2001, the organization has distributed more than 4.8 million new and used books to approximately 515,000 low-income youths in Southern Nevada.
