Ultimate Vegas Sports Weekend kicks off with Fan Fest

Las Vegas and sports go hand in hand and that’s never more evident than during the Ultimate Vegas Sports Weekend (UVSW), Feb. 28 – March 3, when the city is alive with the action of everything from hockey and bull-riding to UFC and rugby to NASCAR and our own Vegas Golden Knights.

Having debuted in 2018, the big weekend returns to be kicked off by the free USVW Fan Fest at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, 200 S. 3rd St., on Feb. 28, beginning at 3 p.m. Interactive experiences, athletic appearances, prize giveaways, food trucks, and other activities await fans at the Center, all tied to the featured sports, as well as the Raiders, the Las Vegas Lights FC, the Las Vegas Aces, Las Vegas Aviators, UNLV sports and Boyd Gaming.

Fan Fest fun will include the chance for NASCAR fans to meet and get autographs from Las Vegas natives Brendan Gaughan and Noah Gragson. Surrounding them on site will be stock cars, a merchandise trailer and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway mascot, Pit Boss. Hockey fans can test their skills on a Vegas Golden Knights net and hang with Chance the Gila Monster, the team’s mascot.

For fight fans, UFC combatants will drop in for an appearance, at which merchandise will also be available, while rugby’s Team USA top scorer/No. 1 player, Perry Baker, will arrive for a meet-and-greet, as well as USA Sevens mascots Mr. Rug-Bee and Richie Rhino.

And bull-riding fans can get up-close and personal with Hellfire, a real, 1,500-pound rodeo bull. On hand to greet fans will be Bull Riding Hall of Famer Tuff Hedeman, back-flipping bullfighter Bryce Redo and bull rider Eli Vastbinder.

Fan Fest will be capped by the NASCAR Hauler Parade. Departing at 6 p.m. from the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada” sign near Mandalay Bay on Las Vegas Boulevard, it will run north to the U.S. 95/Las Vegas Boulevard interchange. Approximately 40 colorful, 18-wheeled haulers will get a police escort while parading through the Strip to Downtown.

Also at 6 p.m., the USA Sevens Parade of Nations and opening ceremony will unfold on Fremont Street, where fans can interact with players as the teams march through. Then at 7 p.m., the Downtown Events Center will host a Golden Knights watch party, presented by the D Las Vegas, as our hockey favorites take on the Florida Panthers.
