Wynn Resorts earns kudos for philanthropic education
The organization Preferred Hotels & Resorts (PH&R) has honored Wynn Resorts for its philanthropic education programs in the United States and Macau.
As part of its Great Initiatives for Today’s Tomorrow’s Society (GIFTTS) program to recognize member hotels for commitment to philanthropy, community, sustainability and education, PH&R selected Wynn as this year’s Awards Education winner. Wynn was cited for inclusive programs the company has initiated in the communities surrounding Wynn Las Vegas, Encore Boston Harbor and Wynn Macau.
Wynn Resorts pioneered a corporate partnership with a local Las Vegas elementary school to increase teacher retention rates, repair school infrastructure and increase student attendance. Since 2015, Wynn employees have adopted 50 classrooms annually at Dean Petersen Elementary School to provide volunteer hours, school supplies and funding. As a result, the initiative helped the school attain a 20 percent year-over-year growth rate in students performing at grade level on standardized tests and advance from one-star to two-star schools within the district.
In addition, Encore Boston Harbor raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local education centers and career-readiness programs, and Wynn Macau offers dozens of scholarships to local students.
“Improving the communities in which we live, work and serve is an integral part of Wynn Resorts’ charitable mission,” said Marilyn Spiegel, president of Wynn Las Vegas and Encore, in a statement. “Education is a crucial pillar in our philanthropic outreach efforts, where we focus on pioneering programs for students at all levels that provide new paths to success in the classroom and beyond.”
